Our team was the SPiCE The Reunion conference in Goa on 25–26 November. Our Managing Partner, Ms. Shwerta Bharti attended as a speaker on a session dedicated to compliance in the gaming sector.
She spoke about why compliance is no longer a hurdle but a strategic enabler for the industry, and how the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act (PROGA) gives us a rare opportunity to rebuild the sector on more ethical, transparent and accountable foundations.
key takeaways from the discussions:
• The future of gaming in India will be written around trust, transparency and player protection.
• Compliance-by-design – in KYC/AML, data protection, advertising and grievance redressal – will distinguish serious players from short-term opportunists.
• PROGA is a reset button: it allows the industry to move from ambiguity and controversy towards a structured, standards-driven framework.
• Esports, casual gaming and other non-money formats can truly flourish if built on robust governance, responsible gaming and integrity standards.
• Meaningful collaboration between government, industry, regulators and civil society is essential to create a safe, scalable and globally respected Indian gaming ecosystem.
